Nuru, as a first-time buyer meets the word

Nuru is a Japanese-origin technique performed with a clear, slick gel, booked at this house under the same ladder as every other technique.

Nuru takes its name from a Japanese word meaning smooth or slippery, and that describes the medium rather than the method. Its defining feature is the gel: a colourless, odourless preparation traditionally made from seaweed extract, which stays slick far longer than oil and rinses away with water. The technique developed in Japan and reached European cities over the past two decades, where it now appears on nearly every menu in this category.

How buyers meet the word

Most people first see nuru as a listing among other named techniques, often next to body-to-body, and assume the two are the same. They are related, since both belong to the full-contact family, but nuru is specific about its gel, while body-to-body is a broader term and is normally performed with oil. Soapy, another name on the list, is closer to nuru in feel but uses a lather and a shower or bath. Clients choosing between the three are usually choosing a texture.

Booking it here

Nuru is booked by name in the WhatsApp thread, like any other technique. The therapist brings the gel and the sheet it requires; the client needs only a warm room, access to a shower and a bed or floor space that can be covered. Because the gel is water-based, clean-up is quick and nothing is left on hotel linen.

Pricing follows the ordinary ladder, with no premium for the technique. For one client with one therapist, ninety minutes are charged at half as much again as the hour and two hours at twice it. Four-hand nuru, one client with two therapists, is double the one-therapist hour, and a couple booking nuru with two therapists pays double that again. The usual deposit conditions apply, so a first booking or a session reserved for the next day is confirmed with half the fee.

Each therapist's profile lists the techniques she offers herself, so choosing someone for nuru starts there. The nuru service page gives the longer account, the what-to-expect guide answers practical questions, and the body-to-body entry sets out the neighbouring term.
